Spanish 219 (Hispanics in the U.S.) students with the gifts collected for Latino children in their last toy and clothing drive
There are several opportunities to get together with other Spanish majors and minors as well as the Spanish professors. This is a great way to immerse yourself in Spanish and get involved in the Spanish language and culture while on campus.
El Club de Español is a group of students interested in doing Spanish-related things outside of classes. They engage in a variety of activities on and off campus: organize the informal gathering known as "La Hora de Café", learn to cook typical dishes, learn to dance, participate in Madison´s Festival Hispano (see picture below), dine in Hispanic restaurants in the local area, and travel off-campus to a variety of Hispanic events. This is a student oriented and administered organization, a great chance for students to gain leadership experience.
La Casa Amiga is a non-profit organization in Madison, IN to help local Hispanics. A wide variety of volunteer opportunities is available (for example: receptionist, childcare worker, driver, translator, interpreter, bilingual library assistant, tutor for literacy program). Give back to the local community by helping with English language classes at La Casa Amiga. Some of our classes prepare a weekly bilingual story hour for local Hispanic children. This is a life-changing experience for many of our students.
