The Spanish Program

Unlock a world of possibilities with Spanish

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages on the planet—used by more than 500 million people across 21 countries and by over 50 million speakers in the United States alone. At Hanover, studying Spanish means more than learning a language: it’s an invitation to engage deeply with the diverse histories, literatures, and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

From your first course, you’ll be immersed in Spanish through interactive classes, cultural events, and community partnerships. You’ll explore the richness of Latin American and Spanish cultures on campus and beyond—through study abroad programs, internships, and service opportunities that connect your classroom learning with real-world experience.

Our goal is to prepare students for responsible, active participation in the global community. As you develop advanced communication skills and intercultural understanding, you’ll gain the perspective and confidence to thrive in a wide range of careers—from education, business, and healthcare to international relations, media, and the arts.

The Spanish major and minor combine seamlessly with other programs. Many of our students double major or minor in areas such as Business Scholars, Film Studies, Gender Studies, Race and Ethnic Studies, or Medieval and Renaissance Studies. This flexibility allows you to tailor your academic path to your interests and professional goals

Hanover’s Spanish faculty encourages all majors and minors to participate in study abroad, where language proficiency grows alongside personal transformation. You’ll return with sharper linguistic skills, a broader worldview, and lifelong connections that prepare you to contribute meaningfully to an interconnected world.
